Portland, Oregon-based producer Graintable (aka James Cooke) makes his return to Ransom Note for the third time with a 10-track ambient album. Late-night sessions in the studio brought about unique ambient compositions, impregnated with the sonic essence of the Pacific Northwest - tracks of mind-boggling ambient, drone and synth that caress the listener’s ears like waves at the end of the Columbia River. These soothing sounds conjure up lonely places amid a vertiginous tempest, where the sampling of noise crescendos and softness of sounds come together to accompany the dream synths wrapped up in a cloud-like fleece.

This is a especially minimalist set of material for Huerco S. There's a lot of really beautiful additive/spectral synthesis work on this record. For my tastes it's not as compelling some of his earlier work, but the highlights get into some fantastically bizarre stylistic intersections, driving the clangorous palette of the record toward footwork or cloud rap for instance.
